# Avatar

The user's initials in a disc at the end of the chrome-bar — the account-settings control. A raised step of the chrome with brand ink, the same in both themes.

```html
<a class="postie-avatar" href="/settings" aria-label="Account settings">FW</a>
<a class="postie-avatar postie-avatar--lg" href="/settings" aria-label="Account settings">FW</a>
```

**When.** Once per surface, at the far right of the chrome-bar (36px) or masthead (44px). On a settings page body it can appear at `lg` on the working ground, where it takes pebble step 1.

**Do not confuse it with AccountPebble.** The Avatar is *who is signed in*; the AccountPebble is *which mail account a thread belongs to*. They never share a row.

**Never.**
- Never an oxblood fill — the brief bars the accent from avatars outright ("never an avatar fill").
- Never a generated colour per user, never a gradient ring, never a green "online" dot on it.
- Never a stock silhouette icon; initials until the owner supplies a photo (labelled placeholders, never invented imagery).
- Never below 36px as a control (44px tap target on mobile).
